Education

Dr. Ying Zhuge received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 2002.  She received her MD degree from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida in 2006.  She completed her General Surgery Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Hospital in 2013.  During her residency, she completed a two-year Research Fellowship with the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and studied the role of endothelial progenitor cells and mesenchymal progenitor cells in neovascularization associated with diabetic wound healing, limb ischemia, and myocardial injury.  She completed her Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Surgical Oncology Fellowships at University of Tennessee Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital and St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, in June, 2015.

After finishing her fellowship, Dr. Zhuge joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Tennessee Healthy Science Center and Le Bonheur Childrens hospital as a faculty member.  She is the first pediatric surgeon at Le Bonheur to obtain robotic surgery privileges.  She also joined the team at the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic at Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital, which is actively recruiting patients for medically-supervised weight loss, as well as evaluating and preparing them for weight loss surgeries.
