Clinical Care Specialty/Interest

Dr. Shah’s clinical expertise is in adult and pediatric transfusion medicine including immunohematology, stem cell collection and cellular therapies, therapeutic apheresis, consultative special coagulation and consultative transfusion medicine.

Fellowship- Transfusion Medicine, Emory University Hospital Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Atlanta, GA

Residency- Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, University of Miami Hospital/ Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, FL

Medicine- M.D.  College of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN

Undergraduate- B.A.  Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN 

Research focus:

Dr. Shah’s research interests are broad and include patient blood management, red blood cell alloimmunization, acquired coagulopathy.  Dr. Shah researches the optimal use of clinical informatics tools such as clinical decision support for laboratory testing and blood products to modify physician ordering practices. 

Other position(s):

Dr. Shah also teaches Pathology to first year Medical Students at the UTHSC College of Medicine and for Foundations course in Masters in Pharmacology.  She promotes active learning through flipped classrooms, serious games, case based learning which also serve to bring some excitement to the classroom!  She enjoys implementing small-scale teaching innovations.
