Biostatement

Jerome W. Thompson, MD, M.B.A., Chairman of UT & UTMG, Department of Otolaryngology at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is a native of the Mid South. Dr. Thompson attended college at the University of California, Riverside, then received his M.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical School and completed his Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency at UCLA.  He did his postdoctoral training in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital (USC), where he joined the faculty.  He went on to earn his MBA degree from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA.  He was one of the thirteen (13) founding members of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO) and is Past President of this organization.  Upon returning to Memphis, he developed a thriving Pediatric ENT Division for UT at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  He is Chief of Pediatric Surgery at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center and Chairman of Methodist Healthcare Otolaryngology Department.  Dr. Thompson is currently involved in the study of medical economics and laryngeal papilloma research. Dr. Thompson was voted Best Doctor’s in America 16 years in a row (1994-2010) and recently appointed President Elect 2011 of Memphis Medical Society and Chairman of Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) Insurance Committee.
