Research Interest/Specialty

As a professor, I want to help students gain an understanding of the subject matter and find enthusiasm for the field. I work toward achieving this goal by: setting high standards, encouraging critical thinking, striving for clear and interactive presentations, building motivation, searching out and engaging innovative technologies, and implementing a clear testing philosophy.

In the research arena, I am interested in all fields of medical and clinical laboratory sciences. My primary interests are focused in the areas of medical microbiology and parasitology. In particular, my research interests revolve around the organization of microbial communities in relation to human diseases. I am also interested in the area of health informatics and laboratory management. Improving educational methodologies that are implemented in education, like incorporating new technologies into the classrooms and developing web courses, is another area of interest.
