Biography

Christopher Vanison is currently an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  Originally from Long Island, New York, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, graduating in 2004 with a degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders.  From there, he received his Master’s degree in Physiology from Georgetown University prior to matriculating at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.  Dr. Vanison received his M.D. degree in 2010 and was elected to both Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Medical Honor Societies.  He then completed residency training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Northwestern University, followed by a fellowship in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction at the University of California Davis.

 

Dr. Vanison’s professional interest is in treating patients with head & neck malignancies, in addition to performing microvascular free tissue transfer and regional flap reconstruction of head & neck defects.  He has a special interest in treating advanced skin cancers of the head & neck.  He has published journal articles and book chapters on head & neck melanoma, pediatric obstructive sleep apnea, head & neck cancer surgery and allergic fungal sinusitis.  Dr. Vanison enjoys teaching residents and medical students during didactics and in the operating room.  While at Northwestern, he received resident teaching awards from both the department of Otolaryngology and the department of graduate medical education.  He looks forward to continuing working with residents and students at UT.
